Around the World /
The USS Constitution: In War & Peace

USS Constitution Museum, Charlestown, MA

MDA has provided consulting services to the USS Constitution Museum since 1990. We have assisted with the design and renovation of existing galleries, development of new facilities and designed exhibitions and casework to highlight a unique collection of paintings, ephemera, armaments, glassware, ship models, commemorative silver, and fabrics.

Around the World focuses on the 1844 diplomatic cruise of the ship, illustrated through the use of playful theatrical environments and scenic backdrops. The USS Constitution: In War & Peace explores the ship’s history from 1797 to the present and includes numerous interactive elements. Visitors can participate in an 1812 Senate vote, experience the complex maneuvering of a square rigger, and operate a scaled replica of a cannonade.

These exhibits were conceptualized through team process, MDA designers working with the Museum curators, education staff, and exhibit technicians. MDA oversaw the bidding process with several exhibit fabrication firms and supervised the installation.
